A Fusee 'english Dial' Clock With A 14" Diameter Dial By F.W. Elliott. Circa 1941

A larger than usual and good quality dial clock.
 
The very substantial, 4 screwed pillar, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. The backplate stamped with the maker''s name ''F W ELLIOTT LTD. ENGLAND'' also having the serial number 14570 and dated 1941.
 
Behind a painted steel, 14'' diameter dial with a cream background, black outer minute track and Roman hour numerals. The centre being written with ''MARLBOROUGH ARMS, SEDGMOOR PLACE, LONDON S.E.5'' also, having black ''spade'' hands and a substantial, cast brass bezel with a silvered sight ring and flat glass.
 
Contained in a heavily constructed, dark mahogany case with a broad dial surround. The back box has a side access door and a rounded bottom incorporating a further and curved locking door.
 
It is believed that this clock was commissioned to be hung in the Marlborough Arms pub which was demolished just a few years ago which can be seen pictured on the internet. It is typical of the very substantial clocks m...
