FAQs

Venetian painted furniture gained prominence during the 18th century, inspired by the opulence of the Rococo movement and French court styles, often created by skilled artisans in Venice to mimic costly lacquerwork.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from local European hardwoods like lime, pine, or beech, featuring hand-carved details, gesso preparation, and delicate hand-painted floral motifs layered over painted grounds.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional linseed oil or tempera paint layers showing natural crazing, and genuine hand-carved wooden embellishments rather than modern cast resins.

These cabinets serve as focal points in modern bedrooms or living spaces by contrasting them against clean, minimalist walls and neutral textiles to highlight their intricate artistry and colour.

Preserve the fragile painted surface by keeping the cabinets away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoiding chemical polishes or water.
