A small desk or mantel clock in the form of a mortar gun, from the industrial series by André Romain Guilmet. Set upon a fine black marble base with gilt bronze edging. The mortar rests in a cradle with rotating axle. The dial is within a glazed ormolu bezel and is of white enamel with blued steel hands. The movement is of 8 day duration and regulated by a platform escapement. The dial is signed by the retailer H.M. Emmanuel, Portsea By Appointment to the Queen.This clock is a rare survivor with its original gilding, silvering and ‘Gun metal bronze’ finish.
