This is not a clock you will often see and it''s difficult to appreciate the small size from pictures shown here on Selling Antiques. The case is what''s known as a ''Chisel trunk'' or ''Chisel base'' with the chamfered door. The case is made from Mahogany with good choice of grain and good colour. The small 8inch dial is original with the name of the maker / retailer Jonathon Jones of 338 The Strand, London. He is recorded in the book of Watch and Clockmakers Vol 2 (by B.Loomes) as working from the known dates of 1863-69...however from a little research on google, it''s clear he was at that address long after 1869 and before 1851! The clock has a fine chain fusee movement which has just been overhauled (in house) , the cast brass bezel has a thick bevelled glass and the wooden surround has the classic ''ogee'' shape.
