A rare 18th century ormolu cartel clock by Nicolas-Antoine Le Nepveu a Paris . This exceptional Cartel clock in a gilt bronze or Ormolu case still with its original mechanism, the 8 day movement strikes on a bell with its original star cut strike count wheel and pendulum, the case is unusually large.
Nicolas - Antoine Le Nepveu (1736-1796) supplied clocks as Ouvrier libre c.1767 and became an accomplished master clockmaker, ''par privilge de l'' hospital de la trinite'' in 1773. He worked in the Rue de Salkle au Compte and in the Rue Magloire.
The case with foliate scroll work, urn finial and Dryad mask still retains much of its original mercury gilding. The original enamel dial has one minor blemish which can be rectified, this clock is shown unserviced and in original condition any restoration work can be carried out at the customers request.
