This grand Victorian decorative bowl serves as a striking centrepiece, comprising a heavy cut crystal body and a matching faceted lid on a square pedestal base. The clear crystal displays intricate diamond cutting, paired with a Dutch silver mount featuring a ribbed band and removable cast silver lion head drop ring handles. Measuring 29.2 cm high, 21.6 cm wide and 20.3 cm deep, the piece integrates Dutch silver marked with the single sword mark used between 1814 and 1905, dating the item to approximately 1880. Positioned on a sideboard top, this covered sweet bowl brings traditional English country house character to formal dining rooms, living spaces, or entrance halls. The clear crystal and gleaming silver elements catch natural light, whilst the functional drop rings and stepped square base provide architectural detail. It functions effectively for display or hosting small confections, adding historical interest and texture to traditional or eclectic interiors.

A silver-mounted cut crystal bonbonniere is a decorative glass vessel fitted with a silver rim or cover, historically created during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to store and present sweets, sugar, or candied fruits.

Late nineteenth-century decorative tableware frequently combined heavy lead crystal, wheel-cut with intricate geometric patterns, with solid silver or silver-gilt mounts around the rim, handles, or base.

Authentic nineteenth-century cut crystal typically displays hand-cut facets with distinct sharp edges, significant weight due to lead content, and official hallmarks or purity stamps on the accompanying metal fittings.

Place the piece on a sideboard, console table, or central dining table where natural light can strike the faceted surfaces, creating light reflections and enhancing surrounding tabletop displays.

Hand-wash the crystal section using lukewarm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding hot water, and polish the silver rim separately using a soft silver-polishing cloth to avoid chemical runoff onto the glass.
