Capucine Carriage Clock

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Its About Time

This Capucine is a fine example of the high quality clockmakers working throughout France in the early 1800''s. Made by Poursillie of Montauban (just north of Toulouse) this clock has ''French striking'' or ''Vineyard striking'' as it''s known - when the clock strikes the hour on the hour , in case you missed it it will repeat the hour a few minutes after and give you a chance to listen and count...ingenious ! The clock also has pull repeat, Alarm and a rise & fall dial to the front above the 12 for adjusting the length of the silk suspension. The Capucine was a forerunner to the carriage clock and this great example is from around 1810-20. The bell to the top is what it strikes on and the speed of the strike is pleasant. You will not find a better example !
