Long Case Clock

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Hedley Wilson

A superb lacquered and chinoiserie decorated long case clock by Robert Berry.

The five finned pillared movement, with internal countwheel strike, is of notable quality. The dial with subsidiary seconds, and date aperture, having a signed boss in the arch.

The case is in particularly good condition, with decoration typical of the early 18th century, and the decoration is on a faux tortoise shell ground of red and black.

Little is recorded about Robert Berry; he seems to be part of a clockmaking family who worked in Hitchin, Herts.
