Description

A fine and large 'Grande Sonnerie' carriage clock in a gilt gorge case with a white enamel dial showing 3 sub dials. The first days of the week, middle alarm, and third

calendar. Classic 'moon' hands, fine Roman numerals and outer minutes . Push repeat and striking on two tuned bells. The clock is stamped 4840 which can be attributed to Drocourt and their numbering system. This fine and quite rare clock also retains the original large silvered platform and jeweled lever escapement which is also number stamped and the classic Drocourt pattern. Grande sonnerie striking or petite sonnerie and fully silent if you wish. The push repeat button to repeat the last hour and quarter. Thick perfect bevelled glass panels to all sides and with a chime selection lever to the base. Circa 1860-70. Drocourt has achieved worldwide recognition with their quality workman ship and complicated movements. Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were France' leading makers from the middle of the 19th century through to the late Victorian era. They had a factory in Saint-Nicolas-d'Ailermont, which was regarded as the most important town for carriage clock manufacturing. The majority of their clocks would go to their Paris premises and dispersed amongst the world's top retailers of that time. They exhibited at the major exhibitions winning a bronze medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889. The son, Alfred, succeeded his father Pierre sometime in the 1870's.

The outer leather covered case it is supplied with is not the original but is a perfect fit and contemporary to the clock.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
