This Victorian settee is a traditional three-seater Chesterfield piece of furniture representing English country house style. The construction combines a solid frame with walnut show-wood elements, featuring carved cabriole legs, scroll arms, and a serpentine front rail. The upholstered surfaces are covered in a sage green tapestry fabric with a multicoloured floral pattern, paired with deep button-backed upholstery along the curved backrest. Natural signs of age appear as minor wear on the polished wooden frame and slight fading on the patterned fabric. The measurements are 190 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, providing substantial seating capacity. Placed in a living room, drawing room, or study, this settee serves as a functional seating arrangement that brings period character and traditional pattern into a domestic interior.

Originating in the nineteenth century, Victorian settees typically feature deeply padded seating, buttoned upholstery, and exposed hand-carved timber frames constructed from woods such as walnut or mahogany.

High-grade hardwoods like walnut were constructed around steel coil springs, horsehair padding, and natural fibre webbing, covered in heavy wool tapestry, velvet, or damask fabrics.

Look for hand-carved timber scrollwork, original castor wheels or carved cabriole legs, hand-stitched webbing beneath, and natural timber wear consistent with nineteenth-century cabinetmaking.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway or reception space, balancing its floral upholstery with plain neutral walls and modern minimalist lighting.

Keep timber frames away from direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage, and routinely vacuum upholstery using a soft brush attachment while keeping the fabric out of prolonged direct sunlight.
