Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is an 18th-century storage vessel featuring a hinged top lid over a main compartment, combined with one or two drawers set into the base. It evolved from the traditional coffer to provide compartmentalised access to smaller textiles or footwear without disturbing the upper contents.

Authentic Georgian oak coffers were constructed using solid English or European oak, utilizing mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs. Drawers were typically constructed with oak or pine linings using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with cast brass handles.

Genuine 18th-century pieces display hand-hewn timber surfaces, hand-planed backboards, and natural shrinkage gaps in the oak panels consistent with age. Look for original pegged joints, early wire or strap hinges, and dark oxidisation around iron and brass fittings.

A mule chest functions as a functional focal point in a hallway, entryway, living room, or placed at the foot of a bed. Combining the dark timber patina with contemporary neutral walls, simple ceramics, or modern artwork creates a balanced interior scheme.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood and maintain its patina. Keep the chest away from direct heat sources such as radiators to prevent the timber from splitting or warping.
