An Extremely Rare Victorian Royal Mail Train Guards Issue Pocket Watch No 53, By Gilbert Bland, Circa 1870

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Oliver Sargent Antiques

On offer is this extremely rare Victorian Royal Mail Train Guards issue pocket watch no 53, by Gilbert Bland, circa 1870. A very large and heavy front and rear opening case with good hinges measuring 62mm in diameter excluding the top loop section and 25mm deep and a total length of 90mm. Signed to the rear case section with the Crown of Victoria & VR and No 53 being the same as the dial. The fully signed gilt movement retains the same matching numbers to what looks to be a nickel case showing some general wear. The dial has one short craze and hairline at 3 and a shallow edge chip at 1 both as shown in the pics. The watch is in full working order holding time. For the serious collector and probably as a Royal Mail train issued watch, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
