Description
Nicely proportioned two-part Welsh oak food cupboard, the upper section with a bold cornice above a pair of panelled doors enclosing a shelved interior and flanked by reeded canted corners, over a base of four drawers raised on bracket feet. The top panels are of a particularly unusual and elaborate design. The interior retains much of its historical limewash finish. Good colour and surface patination with signs of wear, especially around the sides and base. Carmarthenshire, west Wales, circa 1770. (Restoration: Some old replacements - two backboards, baseboard to top half, one base return moulding, two side feet; upper shelf missing; replaced handles) Height: 73.5 inches; 187 cms Width across top of base: 49.5 inches; 126 cms.
