Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Silver flatware from the Georgian and early Victorian eras was predominantly handcrafted by skilled silversmiths, often featuring regional assay office marks such as Exeter alongside standard London hallmarks, reflecting a rich tradition of British metalsmithing.

These items are crafted from sterling silver, typically of .925 fineness, shaped through traditional hammering, casting, and hand-engraving techniques, often finished with monogramming applied by hand.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear hallmarks stamped into the metal, which include the makers mark, standard purity marks, date letters indicating the year of assay, and the town mark of the regional office.

Antique silver can be incorporated by pairing polished silver pieces with contemporary minimalist dinnerware to create a curated contrast, or by displaying them in glass-fronted cabinets as functional decorative objects.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using non-abrasive silver polishes and soft cloths to preserve the patina and hallmarks, and stored in tarnish-resistant cloth or low-humidity environments.
