This Georgian serving spoon is made from solid sterling silver with a reflective silver finish. The design includes a tapered handle with monogram engraving reading 'AB' at the tip, a plain curved stem, and a broad oval bowl. Hallmarks for Exeter, 1806, and maker William Welch II are present, alongside faint surface scratches, light marks, and subtle polish residue reflecting age. The piece measures 22 cm high by 8 cm wide. In a modern home, this item serves as a functional utensil for formal dining or as a decorative display piece on a sideboard top. It is suited for everyday use or special occasions, bringing traditional silverware into contemporary interiors. The solid construction and classic English country house style allow it to integrate smoothly with existing tableware collections or display arrangements.

Exeter silver refers to items hallmarked at the Exeter Assay Office in Devon, England, which produced distinct provincial British silver flatware and hollowware until its closure in 1883.

Antique British silver spoons were primarily crafted from sterling silver, an alloy containing 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent copper for structural strength.

Authentic Exeter silver features distinct hallmarks stamped on the stem, including a town mark depicting a castle, alongside a maker mark, date letter, lion passant, and monarch duty mark.

Antique silver serving spoons can be layered alongside modern neutral tableware on a dining table or displayed inside a glass cabinet to add historical context.

Clean antique silver using a specialized silver polish applied gently with a soft cotton cloth, avoiding abrasive sponges, and store in tarnish-resistant cloth covers.
