Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An overlay glass scent bottle is created by fusing two or more layers of coloured and clear glass, which is subsequently cut through to expose the contrasting colour beneath. Popular during the 19th century, these vessels were designed to hold liquid perfumes or aromatic salts.

Victorian scent bottles typically feature hand-blown or cut lead crystal bodies fitted with sterling silver collars and caps. The silver mounts were shaped using repousse or chasing techniques and often enclosed an internal glass stopper to prevent evaporation.

Authentic items usually feature British hallmarks stamped into the silver cap or neck collar, indicating the silver purity, assay office, and date letter. Furthermore, hand-cut glass facets and natural oxidisation within the recessed areas of the silver mounts indicate late 19th-century origin.

Displaying a collection of antique scent bottles on a mirrored tray, inside a glazed cabinet, or on a bathroom vanity creates a structured visual arrangement. Grouping bottles of varying heights and shades highlights the light-refracting qualities of cut glass.

Clean the exterior glass using a soft microfibre cloth moistened with warm water and mild soap, avoiding immersion of the silver mounts. Silver caps should be polished gently with a specialised silver polishing cloth rather than liquid chemicals.
