Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1870s:
Double overlay glass cut through blue and white: mid-Victorian Bohemian lapidary work.
Original ground glass peg stopper: preserved internal fitment from manufacture.
Embossed foliate cap with pinned barrel hinge: late nineteenth-century mounting work.
Aged cork lining inside the silver dome: original cushioning showing decades of use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian overlay scent bottles are nineteenth-century perfume containers crafted by fusing a layer of coloured glass over clear glass, then cutting through the outer layer to reveal geometric patterns, often finished with hallmarked silver mounts.

These vanity pieces were predominantly constructed using heavy cased lead glass, cobalt or ruby glass, alongside sterling silver or silver-gilt caps featuring hand-engraved or embossed ornamentation.

Authentic pieces generally feature British silver hallmarks or maker marks stamped on the collar and lid, sharply hand-cut glass facets, and fine hand-finished joinery between the glass neck and silver mount.

Position the piece on a mirrored vanity tray, a marble bedside table, or within a glass display cabinet where natural light can highlight the contrast between the cut glass and silver.

Clean the glass body using warm water and a mild non-abrasive liquid soap while avoiding submersion of the silver collar, and polish the silver mount gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
