This Victorian pot cupboard dates from the mid to late 19th Century and is executed in richly figured burr walnut with a warm brown timber colour and contrasting ebonised trim. The design includes a single cabinet door framed by shaped ebonised moulding, a rounded top edge, a shaped splashback gallery, a dark wooden turned knob handle, and a plinth base. A maker's plaque for Hewetson & Thexton of Tottenham Court Road is mounted inside the door, which opens to a shelved interior, showing small age-related marks and knocks consistent with a piece of this age. The cabinet measures 86 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a modern interior, this compact piece functions effectively as a bedside cabinet in a bedroom or as a small storage table positioned at the end of a sofa in a living room. Its warm wood tones and traditional English country house style suit both period and eclectic room schemes, providing practical surface space and enclosed shelving for everyday items while adding classic character.

Originally designed during the nineteenth century to conceal ceramic chamber pots, a Victorian pot cupboard is a compact enclosed cabinet typically constructed with a single door, interior shelving, and a flat top surface.

These cupboards were predominantly crafted using solid hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or pine, frequently decorated with figured veneers such as burr walnut and finished with ebonised detailing or turned timber knobs.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, natural timber shrinkage along the back boards, authentic veneer wear, and book-matched burr walnut grain patterns with subtle oxidisation around original fixtures.

A pot cupboard functions as an occasional side table beside a sofa, a compact nightstand in a bedroom, or a standalone storage pedestal in a hallway or reading nook.

Position the cupboard away from direct heat sources and sunlight to preserve the glue line beneath the veneer, and clean the timber regularly using a dry microfibre cloth followed by periodic applications of natural beeswax.
