This pair of mid-19th-century Grecian Revival vases takes the form of opaline glass vessels with white bodies, orange Greek key motifs, and gilt lines around the necks and foot-rims. Each vase has a flared neck, a baluster body, and a pedestal base, and displays painted classical warrior figures and figural vignettes around the middle. The set stands at 35 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. Placing these vases on a mantelpiece brings a classical element to a home interior. The glazed white surface complements the orange and gold enamel decoration, while the traditional shape suits period-style reception rooms and living spaces.

Grecian Revival opaline glass refers to translucent or opaque decorative glass manufactured in the mid-nineteenth century, adorned with painted classical motifs, figures, and geometric patterns inspired by ancient Greek and Etruscan pottery.

These pieces were created using blown opaque glass, formulated with compounds such as tin oxide or bone ash to achieve an opal-like translucency, before being decorated by hand with enamel pigments and gilded accent lines.

Authentic pieces feature hand-applied enamel decoration with raised surface texture, pontil marks on the base, and minor wear to gilt bands consistent with natural age rather than modern surface transfer prints.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard against a dark backdrop highlights the white background and classical painted figures.

Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking in water, applying chemical solvents, or scrubbing the surface, as abrasive handling can rub off hand-painted enamel details and leaf gilding.
