Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Burmantofts Pottery vase from 1890 follows the Arts and Crafts style, taking a baluster form with a narrow neck and a rolled rim. The earthenware piece wears a rich red monochrome glaze with a high-gloss finish. The solid red colour catches the light across the rounded shoulders, displaying the smooth, unblemished surface without chips or crazing. The round base stands slightly wider than the rim, with the stamp 110 marked underneath. At 23 cm tall, the vase fits comfortably upon a sideboard top or dresser surface. Placed in a modern room, it brings a vibrant touch of Victorian design to a living room shelf or hallway console table, holding dried stems or standing alone as a decorative accent.

FAQs

Produced in Leeds, England, between 1879 and 1904, Burmantofts faience gained fame for architectural ceramics and decorative art pottery featuring bold monochrome glazes during the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements.

Potteries of this era typically utilised local terracotta or white earthenware clays, finished with rich monochrome lead or tin glazes to create deep colouration and high gloss.

Authentic pieces usually feature impressed makers marks on the base, such as BURMANTOFTS FAIENCE or the monogram BF, along with shape reference numbers stamped directly into the clay.

A vibrant monochrome ceramic vase provides a focal pop of colour when positioned on a dark wood sideboard, a fireplace mantelpiece, or placed alongside neutral stone ceramics.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid submerging the piece in water or using abrasive chemicals, which can compromise surface crazing.
