Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian bedside cabinet is made from painted wood and metal, finished in a pale green colour. The piece takes the form of a narrow freestanding cupboard with a moulded top edge above a single panelled door. Visible details include a metal drop handle on the left side of the door, visible hinges on the right edge, and a solid plinth base at the bottom. The paint shows minor surface marks, scuffs and general signs of age consistent with regular use over time. Measuring 77 cm high, 38 cm wide and 34 cm deep, the cabinet stands on a floor in a compact vertical profile. It suits a bedroom as a bedside table for holding evening essentials, or functions in a compact hallway, living room or study as a small storage unit next to seating.

FAQs

Edwardian bedside cabinets, produced between 1901 and 1910, evolved from Victorian pot cupboards used to house chamber pots. They typically feature straighter lines, restrained decorative moulding, panelled doors, and compact rectangular shapes compared to earlier periods.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as pine, mahogany, oak, or walnut. Internal joinery often utilised dovetailed framing and tongue-and-groove backing panels, with brass or cast-iron hardware closures.

Authentic pieces display period construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints, original timber backs, and period-appropriate door latches or handles. Wear around handle fixings, base perimeters, and internal shelving also indicates historical age.

Painted antique cupboards can be integrated into contemporary spaces as side tables, bathroom storage units, or hallway accent pieces. Pair them with neutral walls, minimalist ceramics, or modern lighting to create contrast between period textures and modern decor.

Clean painted wooden surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust without abrading the finish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and place the furniture away from direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent wood movement and paint flaking.
