A matched pair of nineteenth century mahogany bedside cupboards made in the William IV style and finished in a warm brown colour with a clear polished sheen. Each cabinet has a rectangular top with a slim moulded edge, a pull-out slide fitted with small brass ring pull handles, and a single central cupboard door centred with a flame mahogany panel enclosed by dark ebony mouldings. The door is flanked by barley twist columns with carved capitals, and the entire structure stands on four rounded lobed bun feet. The timber exhibits natural grain variations across the polished surfaces. Each unit measures 76 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. These compact storage cabinets work well beside a bed in a bedroom or as small side tables in a traditional living room, library, or hallway. The enclosed shelving provides practical concealment for night-time essentials, books, or small household items while maintaining a tidy surface on top for a lamp or decorative accessories. The classic British design brings traditional character to period interiors.

FAQs

During the early to mid-nineteenth century, mahogany bedside cupboards were characterised by solid wood frames, flame mahogany veneers, classical spiral-twist or reeded columns, and turned feet, designed primarily for bedroom storage.

Craftsmen utilised solid mahogany frames complemented by flame mahogany veneer panel doors, hand-dovetailed drawer linings, brass hardware fitments, and hand-carved timber columns.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, natural wood shrinkage lines along side panels, original brass lock plates or drop handles, and distinct hand-carved architectural detailing.

These cabinets function as symmetrical nightstands flanking a bed, adding warmth and dark wood tones, or placed on either side of a living room sofa as end tables.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, and position the timber away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight.
