Originating in late 17th-century England (16891702), the William and Mary style introduced Dutch and French Baroque influences. It is distinguished by refined proportions, extensive use of walnut veneers, intricate marquetry, teardrop handles, decorative bun feet, and bold architectural mouldings.

These pieces typically feature an oak or pine secondary wood carcass veneered with figured walnut or burr walnut. Inlay work often incorporated boxwood, holly, or sycamore, while original hardware consisted of hand-cast brass drop handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period examples exhibit thick, hand-sawn veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, split-pin attachments for brass handles, and signs of age-related shrinkage or movement along panel joints.

Place the cabinet as a standalone statement piece against a neutral or dark painted wall to highlight the decorative marquetry. Complement the warm wood tones with contemporary minimalist lighting or textured architectural decor.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, buffing gently along the direction of the grain.
