Originating in early nineteenth-century Britain, Regency style furniture is characterised by classical symmetry, straight lines, dark polished woods like mahogany, and refined architectural details inspired by ancient Greek and Roman design.

These pieces typically feature solid or veneered mahogany, mortise and tenon joinery, dovetail jointed bases, and hand-carved decorative motifs such as reeding, fluting, or pilaster supports.

Authentic pieces often display hand-sawn timber marks, original brass hardware, natural wood shrinkage around joints, and aged patination, particularly on upper surfaces and shelf edges.

Place the bookcase against a neutral painted wall, anchoring the room, and style the open shelves with a mixture of curated hardback books, ceramic vessels, and framed artwork to balance historical weight with contemporary aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the wood is kept away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading.
