Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian sectional bookcase by Gunn Furniture dates from around 1900. Built from oak with a dark brown polished finish, the piece comprises four stackable modular sections standing on a plinth base with block feet. Each tier contains a glazed lift-and-slide door fitted with a small central brass pull knob. The timber displays a uniform dark tone through the frame, enclosing transparent glass panes across the four compartments. The cabinet measures 147 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 25 cm deep, offering slender proportions suitable for smaller studies, home offices, or living rooms. The modular construction allows for collection displays and book storage, maintaining a classic gentleman's library aesthetic within a modern interior.

FAQs

Developed in the late nineteenth century, sectional or barrister bookcases consist of stackable modular units with glazed doors designed to protect law volumes and allow easy transportation.

These pieces were typically crafted from sturdy hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring glass front panels and brass mechanisms.

Authentic pieces usually display manufacturer stamps or paper labels inside the sections, alongside characteristic lift-and-slide door mechanisms and interlocking wooden joints.

Position the cabinet as a standalone feature in a modern study or hallway, using the glazed compartments to display curated ceramics, framed prints, or leather-bound books.

Clean glass panes with a soft microfibre cloth, taking care to avoid contact with the wooden frame, which should be conditioned periodically with natural beeswax.
