Georgian tankard or mug. Small blue tankard or mug of slightly waisted form. Pontil scar to underside of base. English c1800.

Rim dia: 6.3 cm.

Base dia: 6 cm.

Weight: 160 grams.

Condition: Very good. Provenance: The Christopher Farlow Collection.

Georgian coloured glassware refers to hand-blown vessels manufactured in Great Britain between 1714 and 1830. These pieces are characterised by deep pigments, such as cobalt blue and emerald green, created through metallic oxide additives during production.

Georgian cobalt glass was produced by adding cobalt oxide to lead crystal or soda glass mixtures. The molten glass was hand-blown and shaped using iron tools, often resulting in applied handles and pontil marks at the base.
