Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Carmarthenshire coffer is a regional form of 18th-century Welsh oak furniture, characteristically featuring double cupboard doors with distinctive ogee or pointed arched fielded panels set above a chest of drawers. Originating from South West Wales, these functional storage pieces reflect the vernacular joinery traditions of the Georgian period.

These coffers were predominantly constructed from locally sourced native dark oak using traditional hand-planed joinery, including mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs. Drawers typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints alongside period brass knobs or drop handles.

Authentic examples are identified by the iconic ogee-arched top panels on the upper cupboard doors, hand-hewn oak construction with pegged joints, and irregular hand-saw marks on the backboards. Age-appropriate patination around original or period-correct brass hardware also indicates historical authenticity.

A historic oak coffer serves as a grounding focal point in a hallway, dining space, or living area, offering substantial concealed storage. Juxtaposition against contemporary muted paint schemes or textured plaster walls highlights the rich grain and architectural panel details of the dark timber.

Dust the wooden surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the original patina. Avoid positioning the piece near direct heat sources or in areas with extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent timber movement and splitting.
