Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Biscuit barrels emerged in Britain and Continental Europe during the mid-nineteenth century to accompany the formal ritual of afternoon tea. Manufacturers combined cut lead crystal with electroplated nickel silver mounts to create decorative containers that preserved the crispness of baked goods.

These containers were primarily constructed using thick lead crystal or hand-cut glass bases paired with silver-plated electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver lids, collars, and swing handles.

Authentic pieces from around 1900 feature hand-cut design work showing slight variations in cut depth, alongside maker marks stamped onto the metal collar or rim, such as the WMF ostritch stamp or EPNS hallmarks.

Style the piece on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or kitchen island alongside contemporary glassware to create a textural contrast between polished metal and faceted glass.

Clean the glass body using warm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding submerged immersion of the metal elements. Polish the silver-plated lid and handle using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver foam, taking care not to rub through the silver layer.
