Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An epergne is an ornamental table centrepiece popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed to display flowers, fruit, or sweetmeats. In the Victorian period, glassmakers produced intricate multi-tiered epergnes featuring central trumpet-shaped flues, branch arms, and hanging baskets.

Victorian epergnes were constructed from hand-blown glass, often incorporating opalescent, cranberry, or uranium (vaseline) glass formulas. Individual components were formed using pontil rods, decorated with applied crimped trailing (rigaree), and held together with brass or silver-plated metal collars.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-blown characteristics such as snap-off pontil marks, minor air bubbles, and slight asymmetry in hand-formed ruffles. Metal fittings often show age-appropriate oxidisation, and individual arms or flues are typically notched to fit specific sockets.

An antique glass epergne serves as a focal point when placed on a formal dining table, sideboard, or marble mantelpiece. Modern interior schemes often present them unadorned to highlight the glass sculpture, or minimalist floral stems are added to complement the original Victorian aesthetic.

Disassemble the removable glass flues and baskets carefully before cleaning. Wash individual glass components by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or dishwashers which can fracture delicate hand-blown glass joints.
