Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco opalescent glass is defined by its translucent quality that shifts between milky blue and fiery amber under changing light conditions. Developed predominantly in 1920s France, this style integrates classical motifs, streamlined geometric patterns, and relief imagery molded directly into the glass surface.

Opalescent glass was created by adding specific chemicals, such as bone ash or fluorides, to the molten glass batch. During the controlled cooling and reheating process, crystallisation occurred within the glass matrix, producing the distinctive iridescent opalescence.

Authentic pieces feature crisp mold definition, seamless finishing, and correct period signatures, such as R. LALIQUE wheel-carved, etched, or cast in relief. Period glass also exhibits specific weight, density, and chemical composition characteristics typical of early 20th-century French production.

Position the vase on a surface exposed to natural directional light, such as a sideboard near a window, to highlight the optical depth of the translucent finish. Pairing glass vessels with dark timber surfaces or minimalist backdrops allows the molded detail to stand out without visual distraction.

Wash the glass by hand using lukewarm water and a mild, non-abrasive dish soap. Avoid sudden temperature changes, harsh chemical cleaners, or automated dishwashers, and dry immediately with a lint-free microfibre cloth.
