Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Rene Lalique began producing glass car mascots, or hood ornaments, in the 1920s during the height of the Art Deco movement. These sculptural pieces were mounted on the radiators of luxury automobiles before transitioning into decorative desk objects and paperweights.

These pieces are crafted from high-quality moulded glass, often featuring contrasting polished and frosted finishes created through acid etching or sandblasting. This technique accentuates the sculptural details and creates a distinct tactile contrast.

Authentic pieces typically feature moulded, engraved, or sandblasted signatures such as R. Lalique or Lalique France, depending on the production period. Collectors also examine the quality of the moulding, weight, and consistency of the frosted patina.

This piece can be displayed on a bookshelf, desk, or mantelpiece where natural light can pass through the clear and frosted glass. Pairing it with minimalist surfaces highlights its sculptural form and historical significance.

Clean the glass using a soft, lint-free cloth and lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials. Handle the item with clean hands or cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from damaging the surface.
