Superb early 17th.c. oak six plank coffer or sword chest c.1600. Measuring 60'' in length this is an unusually large example of the form. Primitive construction, made from six solid oak boards with simple moulded and chip carved decoration. Lovely hand made iron hinges and latch with unusual decorative stamped detail and large iron lock plate. Triangular cuts at the sides to form the feet of the chest.
