Moorcroft Flamminian Art Pottery Vase for Liberty C. 1905

Description

A Moorcroft vase produced during his period with James Macintyre & Co. and made for Liberty & Co., dating to around 1905. This example belongs to the Flamminian range, one of the earliest art pottery lines associated with Moorcroft’s work.

The vase is finished in a rich red glaze with strong tonal depth, shifting from oxblood to darker pooled areas. The shoulder is decorated with three raised foliate roundels, formed as heart-shaped leaf motifs in relief and set beneath the glaze.

Flamminian wares were introduced in 1905 and are distinguished by their emphasis on glaze and form rather than elaborate painted decoration.

Moorcroft’s early work was retailed by leading firms including Liberty, Harrods and Tiffany & Co., and his reputation was established through both technical innovation and refined aesthetic control.

The base retains a faint “Made for Liberty” mark beneath the glaze, alongside an incised model number and Moorcroft’s signature.

A well-preserved and highly representative example of early Moorcroft art pottery.
