Description
An exceptional Bristol Blue Georgian Irish Whiskey Mell Decanter dating to c1830.
It has its original Mother of Pearl and Brass stopper with an enamelled ''Irish Whiskey'' which has a cork base. A wide, pouring lip leads down to a slender neck, hand-painted and gilded with wildflowers in red, orange, and yellow. This continues down to a floral cartouche of similar flowers (which could be Fuchsia) with the central gilded ''Whiskey'' . Polished pontil.
In Scotland, whisky is spelt without the ''e as opposed to Whiskey in Ireland.
A very rare example of decoration.
