Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian mantel clock from 1900 features a brass case under a clear glass dome, resting upon a stepped circular base with turned pillars. The dial displays a cream face marked with black Arabic numerals and delicate hands, while the lower section reveals an exposed torsion pendulum with decorative finials. Measuring 29 cm high, 18 cm wide and 18 cm deep, this torsion year clock works on a mechanical system. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library or study, the piece occupies a mantelpiece or shelf. The polished gold-coloured brass hardware catches the light, complemented by the smooth curved glass cover and visible screw fittings at the top corners of the clock face.

FAQs

A torsion year clock, also known as a 400-day or anniversary clock, is a mechanical timepiece that utilizes a rotating pendulum suspended on a thin wire ribbon. Due to its low energy consumption, the movement can operate for a full year on a single winding.

These timepieces are typically constructed using solid brass movements, pillars, and bases, paired with enamel or metal dials. A hand-blown glass dome covers the mechanism to protect the delicate suspension spring from dust and air currents.

Authentic period torsion clocks feature stamped maker marks on the back plate of the movement, precision brass gear trains, original suspension wires, and period-correct glass domes with natural imperfections.

Displaying a brass torsion clock on a dark wood mantlepiece, a modern marble sideboard, or within a styled bookcase provides an industrial and mechanical contrast to contemporary soft furnishings.

Keep the clock on a level, vibration-free surface to maintain proper pendulum rotation. Dust the glass dome regularly with a soft cloth and avoid moving the clock without locking or securing the delicate suspension pendulum.
