Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian sterling silver tableware is characterised by detailed repousse work, intricate ornamentation, and revival styles such as Rococo and Gothic. These pieces often feature figurative motifs, floral scrolls, and elaborate silver-gilt accents typical of nineteenth-century craft techniques.

Victorian silversmiths crafted sugar bowls primarily from sterling silver, using hand-hammering, repousse, and chasing techniques to raise patterns from the reverse and detail them from the front. Cast handles, feet, and rim mounts were subsequently soldered to the main body.

Authentic British Victorian silver features a complete set of hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling purity, a monarchs head duty mark (for items made prior to 1890), an assay office mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Inspecting the crispness and natural wear of repousse details also helps distinguish genuine period metalwork from modern reproductions.

An antique silver sugar bowl can be styled on a sideboard top, kitchen dresser, or tray alongside modern ceramics to create textural contrast. It also serves as a vessel for trinkets, jewellery, or small floral arrangements on a dressing table.

Clean antique silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a gentle, non-abrasive silver polish, removing tarnish without scrubbing recessed details or deliberate patination. Avoid dishwashers and harsh chemical dips, which can strip protective surfaces or damage soldered joints.
