Antique Georgian Adam Style Mahogany Cabinet

19th century
Description

An outstanding antique Georgian Adam style mahogany cabinet. This was made in England & we would date this from around the 1790-1810 period.

It is of extremely fine quality, with a gorgeous design. The front has lovely curves and absolutely stunning, crisp carving. There is a single locking cabinet door, this stands on tapered legs terminating in spade feet.

We have had this re-polished to a very high standard, there is one small historical repair to the lower edge of the door. This is in excellent all round condition for its age. There is also a shelf inside, which we haven’t shown properly, which sits in the middle.

Width – 33 inches , 84 cm

Depth – 16 inches , 41 cm

Height – 37 inches , 94 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Adam style furniture is defined by neoclassical design principles popularised in the late 18th century, featuring classical motifs such as festoons, ribbon bows, paterae, and symmetrical proportions.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed using rich mahogany or satinwood veneers, frequently detailed with intricate hand-carved woodwork and solid brass hardware.

Look for crisp hand-carved husk swags, ribbon bow motifs, oval beaded panels, and straight tapered legs with original joinery techniques like dovetailing.

Position the cabinet as a focal piece along a hall or dining room wall, contrasting its detailed woodwork with understated modern artwork and neutral wall tones.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a light coat of natural beeswax along the grain periodically, avoiding direct sunlight and radiators.
