FAQs

Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in the Hizen province of northwestern Japan, produced during the Edo period. It gained immense popularity in Europe during the late 17th and 18th centuries through export via the Dutch East India Company.

Imari pieces are crafted from fine kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures, and hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue, followed by an overglaze application of iron red and touches of gold.
