Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late nineteenth century as a response to mass industrialisation, emphasising hand craftsmanship, honest construction, and simple geometric forms. Furniture from this movement typically features visible joinery, unadorned native timbers, and functional metalwork integrated directly into the structural design.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid quarter-sawn oak, selected for its stability and pronounced ray flake grain patterns. Construction methods relied on traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, fielded door panels, and hand-forged wrought iron hinges or latches.

Authentic pieces display clear structural integrity, including pegged joints, hand-finished surfaces, and high-grade solid timber rather than thin modern veneers. Makers such as Heal & Son frequently applied metal makers badges or stamped ivory/bone plaques inside drawers or along door edges.

A solid oak wardrobe provides a grounded, organic anchor when placed against neutral or contemporary painted walls. Integrating the warm timber tones with natural textiles like linen and wool creates a balanced aesthetic in modern bedrooms, hallways, or dressing spaces.

Clean surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent dust accumulation. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and preserve the natural patination, ensuring the piece remains situated away from direct radiator heat to avoid wood movement.
