An exceptional 19th-century French side cabinet by Maison Millet of Paris, executed in beautifully figured kingwood veneers and enriched with finely chased gilt-bronze mounts of outstanding quality.
The cabinet displays superb craftsmanship throughout, with carefully book-matched kingwood panels arranged in a refined geometric parquetry pattern, framed by elegant cross-banding. The gently serpentine form is complemented by a richly veined red marble top, providing a striking contrast to the warm tones of the timber.
The piece is adorned with high-quality gilt-bronze mounts, including finely modelled masks, scrolling foliage, corner mounts and sabots, all crisply cast and retaining a rich, original gilded finish. These mounts are entirely consistent with the production of Maison Millet, one of the most respected Parisian ébénistes of the 19th century.
The two doors open to reveal a shelved interior, offering practical storage while maintaining the cabinet’s elegant proportions.
... Raised on graceful cabriole legs with gilt-bronze feet, the cabinet presents a harmonious balance of luxury and refinement.
Maison Millet, founded in 1853 by Théodore and Blaise Millet, was renowned for producing furniture of the highest quality, frequently exhibited at major international expositions and widely regarded as one of the leading Parisian furniture makers of the period.
This is a statement piece of genuine Parisian craftsmanship, ideal for a refined interior, collector’s setting, or as a focal point in a formal room.
Condition
Very good antique condition throughout. The cabinet retains a clean, well-preserved surface with light, age-appropriate wear. Gilt-bronze mounts remain crisp and richly finished. Marble top in very good condition with only minor, expected age-related marks.
