Art Nouveau large crystal bowl by St Louis glassworks with a gold enamel decoration of poppy flowers and leaves. Stands on four shaped feet. A stunning piece, beautifully executed. The sinuous lines of the décor show art nouveau design at its peak. Beautiful poppy flowers and leaves entwined along the bulbous base. The top of the bowl has gentle curves edged with gold enamel. Made by St louis Glassworks in France a 1880-1900. Unmarked. It’s a very heavy piece as its made from lead crystal. Excellent original condition with light wear to some enamel. Also a small production flaw to the underside next to one of the feet. Max height 20cm and approx. diameter 25 cm at its widest
 
History
 
Saint Louis Company was created in several steps. In 1586 the glassworks moved from Holbach, in the French region of Moselle, where it had settled, to Müntzthal.  In 1767 its name changed to Saint Louis by Royal Appointment. In 1781, Saint Louis discovered crystal. In the 1820s, the name changed again...
