Early 19th-century Georgian glassware is characterised by heavy lead metal content, deep rich colours, and simpler, sturdy geometric forms compared to the more ornate Jacobite or baluster styles of the 18th century.

These pieces were typically handblown from potash or lead glass, often incorporating natural mineral impurities that gave the glass its deep green hue, shaped with pontil marks on the base.

Authentic pieces exhibit rough snapped pontil scars on the underside, surface wear consistent with age, minor air bubbles trapped within the glass, and variations in wall thickness due to manual blowing.

Displaying antique coloured glassware on an open shelf, within a glazed cabinet, or as a contrasting accent piece on a dining table adds historic depth and vibrant colour to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges, and never placed in a dishwasher.
