Late Victorian/edwardian Set of Six Bristol Green Wine Glasses

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a set of six mouth-blown, late 19th century Bristol green wine glasses with knopped stems.

The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 100 plus years of use. The feet have polished out pontil marks to the underside.

The glasses have funnel-shaped bowls measuring 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are plain and sit on double collars and thin capstan stems with medial angular knops. The stems lead to conical feet which measure 6.8 cm (2.7 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 13 cm. (5.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. Dimensions vary slightly from glass to glass as should be expected of mouth-blown glassware.

Lead glass, each weighing in at 155 g. ( ~ 5 1/2 oz.) each.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bristol green glass gained popularity in the late 18th through early 20th centuries, coloured using metal oxide additives such as iron and copper during the manufacturing process.

These glasses were traditionally hand-blown, featuring individually shaped conical or trumpet-form bowls fused to knopped or turned stems resting on flat circular bases.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-drawn stems, subtle variations in dimension due to manual blowing, and polished or ground pontil marks on the underside of the foot.

Coloured stemware can be displayed on open shelving, integrated into contemporary dining table settings for tonal contrast, or arranged on bar carts where ambient light highlights the glass.

Clean by hand using lukewarm water and mild dishwashing liquid, avoiding dishwashers and abrasive cleaning pads which can cause clouding or surface scratching.
