Georgian corner cupboards gained popularity during the 18th century as practical space-saving furniture designed to fit snugly into room corners, often used for displaying fine ceramics and storing glassware.

These pieces were traditionally constructed using solid timbers like mahogany, oak, or pine, frequently featuring veneered panels, dovetailed joints, brass H-hinges, and hand-cut mouldings.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-cut screws, shrinkage cracks in the timber, hand-planed secondary woods, and patination consistent with centuries of use.

Integrating period wooden furniture into modern spaces adds architectural warmth and contrast; use it to store glassware in a dining area or as a focal point in a hallway.

Protect the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and maintain the finish by applying natural beeswax periodically rather than modern silicone polishes.
