Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-19th-century Scandinavian pine cupboard belongs to the folk art style and stands 139.7 cm high, 118.3 cm wide, and 43.8 cm deep. The piece is constructed from pine and finished with a distressed blue paint showing fading, paint losses, and old repairs to the back boards. It has a rectangular top with a moulded edge, twin panelled doors equipped with a working lock and key, and short block feet. Each door front is embellished with hand-painted floral motifs in soft tones. Inside, the double door cupboard contains three fixed shelves and one shallow shelf, along with a space where a shelf was previously positioned. Suitable for everyday use in a modern home, this rustic farmhouse cabinet provides functional storage in a kitchen, dining room, hallway, or living area. The distressed blue paint and hand-painted floral decorations give the piece its characteristic folk art appearance. The sturdy structure makes it practical for housing tableware, linens, books, or pantry items while adding traditional Scandinavian character to an interior space.

FAQs

Mid-19th-century Scandinavian painted furniture is characterised by functional softwood construction decorated with hand-painted folk art motifs, often created to brighten interior spaces during long winter months.

These pieces were typically constructed from local softwoods such as pine or spruce, joined with mortise and tenon craftsmanship, and finished with milk paint or oil-based mineral pigments.

Authentic examples exhibit natural paint wear around handles and base edges, revealing underlying wood grain and previous paint layers, accompanied by period-appropriate hand-forged iron hardware.

A distressed painted cupboard serves as a functional statement storage piece in a modern hallway, kitchen, or bedroom, contrasting cleanly against neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid using harsh chemical sprays or waxes, and maintain consistent indoor humidity levels to protect the original painted finish from flaking.
