Technical Description
An exceptionally rare advertising 19th century Scottish Thistle Glass Whisky decanter dating to c1890.
The decanter has its original thistle flower slice and facet cut stopper. A wide poring rim with flute cuts to the shoulders. In white Enamel the words ''Catto''s V.O.S.H. Whisky ABERDEEN''. Star cut base.
Comments
James Catto established his tea and spirits business in Aberdeen in 1861, and it became one of the first to sell blended Scotch whisky. The ''V.O.S.H.'' stands for ''Very Old Scottish Highland,'' a common description for vintage Scotch at the time.
