Description

A 19th century Italian majolica vase stamped SCA Pesaro molaroni. The vase is decorated with serpant handles and classical mythical renaissance designs across the body of the vase, some standing out in particular with a bird like bodies and a human head, probably a depiction of the monster of Ravenna or harpy, interpreted symbolically by opponents of both the catholic and protestant reformation.

The vase does have some damage to the foot of the vase but overall the body and the handles remain in excellent condition.

Majolica, also spelled maiolica, refers to tin-glazed earthenware pottery originating in Italy, distinguished by its opaque white background decorated with vibrant hand-painted oxide colours.
