Georgian Large Panel-moulded Cream Jug with Blue Glass Rim

18th century
Description

This is a Georgian, mouth-blown, large panel-moulded glass cream jug with an applied blue glass rim dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.

The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the base.

The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 7.2 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter at the pouring rim. The bowl is panel-moulded from top to bottom and the pouring rim is enhanced with applied blue glass. The jug is 12 cm (4.8 inches) across at its widest point (pouring spout to outside of the handle) and is 11.8 cm (4.7 inches) in height. The handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom of the bowl with a curlicue. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector's sticker to the base.

A pretty, period jug weighing in at 250 g. (~ 9 oz.). An unusually tall specimen.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
