Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Chinoiserie represents European interpretations of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions, characterised by hand-painted motifs, lacquered finishes, and scenes depicting figures, pagodas, and exotic flora, which gained immense popularity during the Regency period.

These pieces were typically constructed from native timbers such as oak, pine, or deal for the carcass, finished with layers of gesso, dark lacquer or paint, and intricate hand-gilded or painted decorative motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, historical hinge types, oxidised brass hardware, and craquelure or natural wear within the lacquer layers consistent with age.

This type of statement furniture works well as an accent piece in a neutral or boldly coloured room, allowing the intricate hand-painted surface to serve as a focal point against contrasting wall colours.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading of the lacquer and gilding, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without using chemical polishes.
