Georgian glassware from the 18th century is characterised by heavy lead metal composition, pontil marks on the base, and hand-engraved or wheel-cut surface motifs such as floral patterns, geometric shapes, and crested initials.

These pieces were typically crafted from potash-lime glass or lead crystal, blown by hand into moulds or free-blown, and finished with applied feet, hand-cut facets, and polished stoppers.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic signs of age, including rough snapped pontil scars on the underside, minor surface wear or scratches, slight asymmetry from hand-blowing, and trapped air bubbles within the glass matrix.

Historical glassware adds textural contrast and reflective light when displayed on a sideboard, within a glazed cabinet, or styled on an open shelf alongside modern ceramics and books.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or sudden temperature changes. It should never be placed in a dishwasher.
